Role: Geriatric Care Manager
Christy has been working with older adults, in varying capacities, for the past nine years. Prior to joining the ElderCare Solutions of Michigan team, she worked at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where she provided art therapy; developing, organizing and leading therapeutic group activities for people with dementia. She also directed an Assisted Living Memory Support Unit and served as the quality assistant for a continuing care retirement community’s “Operation Excellence,” a quality improvement culture change initiative. Christy has volunteered for hospice programs, led support groups and given numerous skill-building presentations for both families and peers on working with people with dementia.
Outside of her work in elder care, Christy has experience working with formerly homeless adults, living in a residential facility. Using art therapy techniques she assisted client’s to become independent while dealing with their feelings, daily stressors, family problems and substance abuse issues. She is able to successfully build relationships and advocate for people, whom trust is typically difficult to acquire.
Christy earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Marquette University as well as a Master of Arts in Counseling and Art Therapy from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Currently she serves as a member of the American Art Therapy Association. She received the Emerging Art Therapist Award from the Illinois Art Therapy Association in 2011.
